The pictures below show the installation of two monofilament fishing line recycling bins Flotilla 10-05 installed at the Southport Municipal Pier on March 25, 2008   In addition to the two bins at Southport Pier, the flotilla is planning to set up several more at Ocean Crest Pier and Yaupon Pier.  The materials were donated by the Boat U/S. Foundation and the installation and maintenance of the bins and recovery of line will be done by the flotilla.  The purpose of the program is to reduce the amount of used fishing line that ends up as litter in the marine environment where it can entangle fish and other marine animals, foul propellers and wash up on beaches.
